Preparing for Adulthood: Building Self-Advocacy and Independence Part 2

The transition to adulthood is an exciting time filled with new opportunities and important decisions. Join us for this three-part workshop series designed to help students with disabilities and their families prepare for life after high school. Learn about self-advocacy, transition planning, accommodations, and community resources that can support a successful transition to adulthood.

3-Part Series: August 25, 26, and 27

Part 1 (Aug. 25): Finding Your Voice — Student Participation in the IEP and ITP
Learn how students can take an active role in their IEP and Individual Transition Plan (ITP), develop self-advocacy skills, and help shape their goals for the future.

Part 2 (Aug. 26): Understanding Section 504 — High School and Beyond
Explore how Section 504 supports students in high school and college, key differences between high school and postsecondary accommodations, and strategies for requesting and using supports successfully.

Part 3 (Aug. 27): Planning for the Future — Resources and Supports for Adulthood
Learn about community resources that can support the transition to adulthood, including Regional Center services, employment and independent living supports, Social Security benefits (SSI), and an overview of conservatorship and alternative decision-making options.
